The concept of “Shinrinyoku” or “Forest Bathing” is a wellness experience that originated in Japan. Together with the only "Forest Therapist" in Miyagi Prefecture who studied Forest Science in graduate school, participants will learn why forests need to be protected, and experience how to receive the natural healing energy of the forest by practicing mindfulness in the rich nature. Experiencing “Shinrinyoku” here in Sendai, the “City of Trees”, will be an extra special memory that you can’t experience anywhere else. The forest therapy will take place in the Aobayama area of Sendai. The Aobayama area is home to the 400-year-old Sendai Castle, the Hirose River, the Tohoku University Botanical Garden, the Sendai City Museum, and the Miyagi Museum of Art, making it a place where the history, culture, and nature of Sendai are beautifully combined. The location is also very convenient as it is easily accessible from the center of the city by subway or bus. Medical research on forest bathing has been conducted since the year 2000, and it has been reported that people who take a “forest bath" have reduced stress and increased immunity. Forest bathing is not just hiking, it is a deeper practice of spiritual mindfulness.
